Rates Down This Week, No Consumer Price Inflation Reported

The drama of the week continued to be centered around the push and pull between concerns about the economy and concerns about inflation. In the end, the economic concerns won the week with rates ending up lower. Central to this conclusion was the surprisingly low February Consumer Price Index (CPI) reading that was received by markets on Friday. Thursday, rates had been pushed upward in expectation of results that would show that consumer prices are rising, as was suggested in the prior week by the Fed Beige Book. Nevertheless, with consumer price inflation in check, rates are down and the focus is on Next week's PPI (Producer Price Index) inflation reading, and more imporantly Tuesday's FOMC meeting.
