Housing Starts Stronger Than Expected, Yet Consumer Confidence Weak

Markets were flat Friday following mixed economic news. Rates however should improve by as much as .375 to the points as a result of Thursday afternoon trading. April Housing Starts were stronger than expected, which is bad news for mortgage rates. However May's Index of Consumer Sentiment from the University of Michigan showed a lower than expected reading, evidencing weaker than expected consumer confidence. This is good news for mortgage rates. The net affect in trading today was no change.
