New Hampshire - Mortgage Fraud Resources

New Hampshire homeowners and mortgage borrowers are among the many Americans that are being positively impacted by the Making Home Affordable launched in April 2009 that makes it easier for some homeowners to refinance or modify their mortgages in order to lower their monthly mortgage payments.

To ensure this program gets properly implemented, federal law enforcement agencies, state investigators and prosecutors, civil enforcement authorities, and the private sector are working to help protect homeowners seeking assistance, and limiting the damage caused by fraudulent lending practices.
A list of resources is included below that can help homeowners in New Hampshire combat ongoing mortgage fraud.

The FBI has taken a lead in investigating mortgage fraud, and FBI offices around the country work in conjunction with the offices of state and the federal attorneys general to prosecute criminals.

Local offices of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) can help mortgage applicants find the resources they need to make smart mortgage decisions.
The State of New Hampshire Banking Department helps to set rules, investigate complaints and exercise enforcement/disciplinary authority over the businesses it oversees. The state Real Estate Commission and Appraiser Board each have numerous sources of mortgage fraud information for consumers and can direct them to appropriate contacts for specific questions on mortgage fraud.

Finally, the Better Business Bureau sets guidelines by which businesses should operate and takes steps to ensure that consumers are treated fairly.
