Missouri - Mortgage Fraud Resources

Missouri state law defines mortgage fraud as making false statements or failing to disclose material facts. It creates fines and allows for the licenses of real estate brokers, agents and appraisers to be revoked. It also bars attempts to influence real estate appraisals through extortion or bribery.

There are also a variety of federal, state and private agencies and organizations in the state that can serve as resources for persons affected by mortgage fraud or seeking more information on the subject. Many of them, along with their contact information, are listed below.

FBI field offices are responsible for investigating potential cases of fraud and work with the offices of state and federal attorneys general to prosecute criminals. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) can help mortgage applicants find the resources they need to make smart mortgage decisions.

The Missouri Division of Regulated Professions - Real Estate and Missouri State Real Estate Appraisers Commission each set fair practices and guidelines for mortgage lenders and homeowners. They can be contacted for advice about the steps homeowners should take in shopping for mortgages.
