Massachusetts - Mortgage Fraud Resources

The mortgage industry is increasingly complex. The types of loan products available to consumers over the years can be confusing. The fact is even mortgage professionals make errors that can lead to a criminal charge.
To help borrowers deal with this increasingly growing problem, a list of Massachusetts state and federal resources is listed below. These sources can be contacted for more information on possible fraudulent cases and prevention efforts.
The FBI field offices are responsible for investigating potential cases of fraud and working with offices of state and the federal Attorney Generals to prosecute criminals. The Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offices can help mortgage applicants find the resources they need to make smart mortgage decisions.
The Massachusetts Division of Banks helps to set rules, investigate complaints and exercise enforcement/disciplinary authority over the businesses it oversees. The Board of Real Estate Appraisers has numerous sources of mortgage fraud information for consumers and can direct them to appropriate contacts for specific questions on mortgage fraud. The state's Board of Registration helps to track mortgage lenders operating within the state.
The Better Business Bureau oversees all businesses and will take steps to ensure that consumers are being treated fairly by businesses across the country.
