Idaho - Mortgage Fraud Resources

Idaho was not as affected by the wave of foreclosures in 2007-09 as were many other states. But residents should still take the matter seriously. The state has numerous resources that can assist residents obtaining and managing fair mortgages and avoiding mortgage fraud. Among these is the Idaho Bureau of Occupational Licenses, which strictly tracks the qualifications of mortgage lenders that do business in the state.

FBI field offices are responsible for investigating potential cases of fraud and work with the state and federal attorneys general to prosecute criminals. Local offices of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) can help mortgage applicants find the resources they need to make smart mortgage decisions.

The Idaho Department of Finance helps to set rules, investigate complaints and exercise enforcement/disciplinary authority over the businesses it oversees. The Bureau of Occupational Licenses tracks mortgage lenders operating within the state. The Real Estate Commission has numerous sources of mortgage fraud information for consumers and can direct them to appropriate contacts for specific questions on mortgage fraud.

And finally the Better Business Bureau sets forth guidelines by which businesses should operate and takes steps to ensure that consumers are being treated fairly.
