Fed Voices Concern About "prolonged and severe economic downturn''

The FOMC Minutes were released today showed Fed officials convinced of an economic contraction in the first quarter, and concerned about a protracted downturn in subsequent months. They said they saw little signs of the housing sector improving shortly. Bonds improved this afternoon as it seemed clear the Fed would cut rates again when they meet later this month. Afternoon downward revisions could appear to improve rates by .375 to the points.
